Chapter
Eleven
The Lord appeared to Abraham by the terebinth trees
of Mamre (Hebron), as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat
of the day.
Genesis 18:1
The Terebinth Trees of Mamre
Next, a short distance from these ruins, my Moslem friends brought
me to an old tree. They sat me down and said,
“Sit here
a while. We will return in a few minutes to you.” And they
walked off into the distance as I prayed, “I will to will
Thy will.”
Then I noticed
a big, old gnarled tree. I spoke to the tree, saying,
“Old Friend!
Oh, it’s so good to see you. I’ve missed you so much,
my tree, my old friend. How are you?”
I then noticed a younger, taller, straighter tree a short distance
away, and I said,
“Oh, your
wife is so beautiful! I see she’s still standing there by
your side. How wonderful!”
Finally a very
small, gnarled tree in close proximity caught my eye, and I said
to the big, old tree,
“How lovely
is your child! Oh, you are truly blessed, my friend. I’m so
happy to see you and your wife and your child prospering so well,
standing here together after all these years. I love you. I love
you.”
