Five
I
am not lacking in any gift, as I eagerly wait
for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.

God has been to me.
In
grade school, I already found an outlet for my gifts. Starting in
the fifth grade, I was allowed to accompany the assemblies on the
piano, playing “The Star Spangled Banner,” and the “Viking
March” and “Rustic Dance” for the students to
march on and off the stage.
Soon I was also playing Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstances”
for the graduation ceremonies. What a special honor and thrill for
me to be a part of each graduation, always receiving a beautiful
corsage for my efforts.
My drawing and writing talents found a spot when I became editor
of “Orr Bits,” our school newspaper. Leadership abilities
emerged when elected Mayor of the Student Council.
High
School brought more opportunities for expression. Two years in a
row my float designs won first place in the homecoming parade.
My best friend, Judy, introduced me to the school counselor, who
pulled my school record. She looked at the record. She looked at
me. “Why, you’re the girl who has everything!”

I still had many lessons to learn before I would begin to realize
the full responsibility that comes with God’s gifts. May my
gifts glorify the Lord!
