Chapter
Seven
The family of Jesus said, “He is out of his
mind.”
And the teachers of the law said, “He is possessed.”
Mark 3:21, 22
Genius
Genius was once an admirable thing.
It brought honors and glories and praises to sing.
But now it is known by a far different name.
Why, manic-depressive is the name of the game.
A genius is someone so misunderstood.
They’re bright shining stars next to heads made
of wood.
Wooden heads learned how to keep them in check.
Call them manic-depressive ‘stead of genius, by
heck!
A genius is someone so powerful and strong.
Just call him a name and to you he’ll belong.
A genius can no longer trust in himself.
When labeled manic-depressive, he’ll stay on the
shelf.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
But just call her manic and you’ve got her beat.
In this world of labels it just goes to show
The power a word has to turn off our glow.
Rose, oh Rose, I pray to the Lord
That we shed our labels and no longer be bored.
Come out of your cells and face a new day.
Neither genius nor manic, but just plain okay.
