Epilogue
I put My law in their minds, and write
it on their hearts.
Jeremiah 31:33
Dear Shirley
Recently a dear
lady expressed concern that I was out of line with Scripture. The
following is my reply to her.
April 12, 2003
Dear Shirley,
In John 13:34-35
the Lord gives us a new commandment, that we are to love one another
as he has loved us. By this all will know that we are His disciples,
if we have love for one another. Since we both are students of His
word, I believe that we are His disciples, and that you wrote to
me out of love.
It is in the Spirit
of Love that I have received your concern. I have taken it to the
Holy Spirit. I pray according to the will of God Most High, by the
power of the Holy Spirit, in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. Let my answer to you be pure truth that will enlighten all
who read it.
You expressed concern
that I was out of line with Scripture by adding my own thoughts
or ideas to it. You presented me with three examples that seemed
to address this. After taking them to the Lord in prayer, I will
answer them one by one. Then I will explain, according to Scripture,
exactly where I am coming from.
Revelation 22:18,19.
“For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy
of this book (Revelation): If anyone adds to these things, God will
add to him the plagues that are written in this book (Revelation);
and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of prophecy
(Revelation), God shall take away his part from the Book of Life,
from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this
book (Revelation).”
The Book of Revelation
is a book of prophecy. The whole Bible is made up of many books,
and they are not all books of prophecy. John is referring particularly
to the Book of Revelation as “this book.”
Proverbs 30:6.
“Do not add to His words, lest He reprove you, and you be
found a liar.”
I wish to define
“His words”, according to Scripture. In Jeremiah 31:33
God presents a new covenant. He says, “I will put My law in
their minds, and write it on their hearts.” This is repeated
in Hebrews 8:10 and again in Hebrews 10:16. I understand this to
mean that the Word of God is not only the printed page in the Bible,
but God Himself has put His Word in my mind and on my heart. Also,
Jesus lives in my heart, so l can safely trust all that He reveals
to me.
Deuteronomy 12:32.
“Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it. You shall
not add to it nor take away from it.”
Moses is speaking,
not God. Jesus came and fulfilled all the laws of Moses. He left
us with the Great Commandment, saying, “You shall love the
Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all
your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second
is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two
commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew
22:37-40)
In John 21:24-25,
speaking of John, it says, “this is the disciple who testifies
of these things, and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony
is true. And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which
if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself
could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.”
When Moses wrote
the Pentateuch, Jesus had not yet lived on the earth, so Moses could
not have known all that He would do. Jesus, by sending the Holy
Spirit, instituted the New Covenant. This was promised in the Book
of Joel 2:28-29. God is speaking. “And it shall come to pass
afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh. Your sons
and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams,
your young men shall see visions, and also on My menservants and
on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”
Dear Shirley, I
thank you for providing me with the opportunity to dig deeper into
the Word of God. I do love God with all my heart, soul, mind and
strength, and I am confident that His Word is true, and that it
is written on my mind and in my heart.
It has been brought
to my attention that my words may cause some people in our group
to feel uncomfortable. I took this to the Lord and His answer to
me was “Why do you think I was crucified? I made people uncomfortable!”
So, I am in good company.
May your love for
the Lord cast out all fear.
In God’s
love,
Abraham Rose
